Surf Shop Cops – This Letter Press Release – December 2025
Surf Shop Cops are wrapping up their busy 2025 with the release of one more single, This Letter. So far this year, they’ve released 3 singles, toured regional WA to launch their single “All My Friends”, and played their biggest headline show to date to launch their latest single “Girl Colours.” On top of this, they played an unmissable set at the RTRFM Fremantle Winter Music Festival, and also landed the 5th most played song on RTRFM for the month of August with their song “Girl Colours.”
To send it home, they’re dropping their most sundrenched, catchiest, and most fun song yet, and touring it up and down the west coast to some of their favourite regional towns.
The lyrics of This Letter explore the sort of joy that you’ve got to be down first to really appreciate. It’s a song about keeping a positive mental attitude, and staying optimistic no matter what.
“I wrote it after I’d had a bit of a depressive episode,” lyricist Michael Slitenbachs explains.
“I’d gone through a tough break up, and had to move back in with my parents. I tried to find little things to improve my life every day, taking small steps and establishing healthy habits. After a few months, I felt like I was out the other end of it, and the song just poured out of me. It felt like when the days start getting warmer and longer, until eventually all of a sudden you realise that you’ve made it through the winter, and you can really appreciate the sun.”
Sonically, This Letter is akin to the bouncy surf rock which has dominated Australia’s festival stages and airwaves for the last decade, but also the influence of the power pop bands of the 80s and 90s is clear. It’s equal parts Hockey Dad/Skegss/Beddy Rays, and equal parts You Am I/Teenage Fanclub/The Replacements, underpinned by SSC’s signature wit and groove.
Surf Shop Cops are bringing their eclectic brand of indie-punk to 7 of the best pubs in Western Australia, featuring headline shows in Kalbarri, Geraldton, Jurien Bay, Bunbury, Cowaramup, wrapping it up with a hometown headliner at The Buffalo Club in Fremantle, plus an appearance at the inaugural GoochFest at the Milk Bar in Inglewood.
This Letter drops on all streaming platforms on Fri Dec 5th.
